Petra & wadi Rum
A 3 day Jeep safari in Jordan
(Friday till Sunday)
Especially for diplomats
295 euro
The transportation starts and ends at hotel Hasharon Hertzlia (tel aviv)
This is a popular safari trip starting in the North of Israel at the border
crossing with Jordan. An adventuress desert excursion in our air-conditioned
fully equipped Jeeps and escorted by our efficient safari guides you will
visit (among other things) a Desert Camp in Wadi Rum, the ancient city of
Petra and a drive in one of the many Canyons’s that we will find on our way.
You will start at the Arava – Eilat border crossing and will end at the
Sheik el Hussain – Beit She’an (North) border crossing.
This Jeep safari is a geographical and historical tour with a lot of scenery
during which you will feel the amazing atmosphere of the Jordanian Desert.
The whole group will be active during the trip whether it is by mutual help
or by contributing to the general ambience. You have to take into
consideration that the Jeep could get stuck / stranded and there will have
to be a joint effort to extricate.
The trip day by day
Friday morning:
Pick up at 05:00 at Hotel Hasharon in Hertzlia.
When we get to the Arava border we will start with the following procedure:
* Paying border tax (about 75, - Is.sh) free for diplomats.
(Take notice that on the way back you have to pay 5, - dinar)
* Passport control
* Money change (advice to buy about 80, - / 100, - dinar)
You can pay in Jordan with dollars and with your credit card.
Then we cross to the Jordanian side where the procedure will be more or less
the same. Checking of our personal luggage, passport and car control and
then we are on our way!
Take into consideration that the whole procedure can take 2 hours!
(Depending on other groups waiting to cross the border) So people please be
patient!!
After we cross the border we will have a short visit in Akaba – tourist
village, Twin sister to Eilat where we will have a 30 minute brake for an
oriental breakfast. When finished we will go to the local supermarket where
everybody has to purchase 6 bottles of water!
Then we will drive to Wadi Rum (protected area). Stunning in its natural
beauty, Wadi Rum epitomizes the romance of the desert. Wadi Rum is probably
best known because of its connection with the enigmatic British officer T.E.
Lawrence, who was based here during the Great Arab Revolt of 1917-18. Much
of David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia was filmed there. Wadi Rum is also famous
for its Sunset sites, during summer and winter you get the most dramatic
views as the sun sinks below the horizon.
We will enter Wadi Rum through a local village by the name of Dayssah where
we will start our tour at Lawrence’s spring, Khazali Canyon, the house of
Lawrence, and Siq el Barad Canyon. During this we will enjoy a light lunch,
a nice cup of coffee and we will finish this day watching one of Wadi Rum’s
amazing sunsets.
By dusk we will arrive at our Bedouin Desert Camp, this base and rest area
in the heart of Wadi Rum is built in the Bedouin Arabic tradition blending
naturally into its desert surroundings. Together with its large modern
kitchen “Bait Ali” has traditional Bedouin tented areas, modern showers and
toilets: terraced areas with “zerb oven” and bar facilities.
Here we will get a nice hot shower and prepare ourselves for an exciting
evening.
Saturday:
We will wake at dawn and start our day with breakfast, organizing our stuff
and pack the Jeeps. After all that is done we are on our way
through the dessert with its "moonscape" of ancient valleys and towering
sandstone mountains rising out of the sand to the “desert road” (that starts
in Akaba and ends in Damascus) that will lead us to the city of Petra.
We arrive at Petra around noon where we will enjoy a good lunch at one of
the local restaurants. During lunch we will arrange the distribution of the
rooms (couple/families + children in 1 room)
At this point the group will be divided into 2:
* 1 group who has not visited Petra before will be joined by a Jordanian
tour guide and will enter the “Lost City of Stone”. The explanation will be
in English. The tour guide will collect the entrance fee at the beginning of
the tour (around 30, - dinar) and will buy the tickets.
* The other group, who has visited the site of Petra before, will follow a
tour with the Jeep in “little” Petra and surroundings.
At the end of the tour both groups will meet again and we will be driving to
the nearby Marriott hotel where we will meet for dinner after a short brake
for some rest and a shower.
Sunday:
This morning we will have a “slow” start with a hearty breakfast at the
hotel and then we will follow the same procedure as we did the morning
before.
We will leave Petra behind us and we will ride to Wadi Namalah (namalah=
ant) where we will stop on the way for a breathtaking view over the Arava
desert.
When we leave Wadi Namalah behind us we arrive at Wadi Hassah where we will
experience another breathtaking trip into the canyon and enjoy a fresh dip
in the water. We will enjoy a light lunch along the way at a local
restaurant.
OK my dear friends, this is almost the end of our amazing tour together.
From this moment on we will be driving to the Sheik el Hussein border
crossing where we will arrive around 18:00
